Well, Pienza is known around the world for being the first city created by Pope Pius II [the humanist pope], and it's the first city in the world built with an urban plan so well-organized that it has been recognized as a UNESCO heritage site. The Val d'Orcia offers an unspoiled landscape that changes its appearance depending on the season, with true colors. The Val d'Orcia has much to offer from a food and wine perspective, from traditional cheeses and cured meats from Norcia to the famous porchetta of Pienza. Here in the Val d'Orcia, a red wine based on Sangiovese has been produced for a few years and is now named Orcia. In Val d'Orcia, it's also possible to enjoy trekking and hiking, and to try genuine products with ancient flavours. Can you tell us about your company, Nannetti and Bernardini, and what sets it apart from other food companies in Pienza? Our company has been on the food and wine market for over 50 years, producing its own cured meats made from pork, wild boar, and cinta (a typical Sienese pig that distinguishes itself from the classic pig by having a black coat with a white stripe that circumscribes its shoulders). We also produce a line of cooked meats such as mortadella made from pure roasted ham and our most famous porchetta for those who love simple and genuine products made according to ancient traditions. We welcome you to our two stores located in the center of the town, one on Corso il Rossellino 81, or you can visit the other store at Via 1°Maggio, 2 where customers can find our famous pecorino cheese from Pienza [aged in our own cellar] and many high-quality, traditional Tuscan cured meats, such as Capocollo, Lonza, and our ham obtained using traditional processing and aging methods. Of course, our famous PORCHETTA will not be missing. That sounds delicious. What other products do you offer at Nannetti and Bernardini? In addition to porchetta, which is prepared according to ancient traditional recipes,we also offer cured meats made from cinta senese, a line of wild boar cured meats, and a wide range of our own-aged pecorino cheeses.
